There is a thread that has me thinking about WLS and how it affects (or effects - I can never get those two straight) peoples life. While I know it's an extremely dangerous surgery (but what surgery isn't) and there are people who are, understandably, dead set against it - isn't there good that has come about from this type of surgery. I mean, for those who have had WLS, how much different (good or bad) would your life be? Would you have continued to gain weight to the point of immobilization? Yes, there are people who die on the operating table and I'm minimizing that tragedy. But how many of us probably wouldn't be around - or would have a poorer quality of life - if it weren't for WLS?

I did have WLS. Not a gastric bypass - but an intestinal bypass. The reasons for this type of surgery is involved and would bore everyone. But that surgery has complications of it's own. And I'm actually having revisional surgery in October. But regardless of the problems I have had, I'd do it again. I went from 660 down to 320. And while that is still obese, life is so much easier.

I'm not saying WLS is for everyone. Everyone has to make up their own mind. But I for one, am happy that we live in a time and place, where we have the option.
