Best things in and around ... your town

Oklahoma City (of all places) has a jewel of an Ethiopian restaurant that even most of the locals don't know about. The Queen of Sheba is on MacArthur Blvd. just south of NW 23rd street, between a Mexican ice-cream shop (home-made and incredible) and a cowboy dance hall. Did I say it's a mixed...

    Natural Remedies and Homeopathic Suggestions

Arnica works wonders on life's little bumps: it relieves the pain of bruises, contusions, and abrasions. And valerian is good for insomnia. I take it in capsules; it smells awful but promotes relaxation. Some people prefer it in tea, but I've never tried it that way.

    What made you LOL today?

Ah, the joys of medicating rabbits! It amazes me that anything so fuzzy can be so slippery. :)

    What's pissing you off today?

This is a wise person. Would someone please rep her for me?

    What's pissing you off today?

The problem is that they will be giving way to other people who, by that time, will have themselves become old. When you get old, you are vulnerable: your body and mind don't work the way they always have, and you feel insecure. So you defend yourself by being stubborn, crabby, and closed...

Pear Shaped vs Apple Shaped - Associated Health Risks Equal for Both

I'm not sure what the study actually does show. First we're told that subcutaneous fat generates the "same damaging proteins" as belly fat. What damaging proteins? We don't know, because the article says nothing about them; instead, it goes on to say the danger is that any kind of body fat...

    "Plus-Size Singer Rihanna--" 'Plus-Size' WHERE???!!!

Well, of course she's plus-sized: just look at the pictures! You can't count her ribs in any of them...

What are you happy about today?

The Canada/US relationship is subtle and complicated. Many Americans who plan to travel abroad take along a t-shirt with a maple leaf on it so they can pretend to be Canadian if it should become necessary. The US is not universally beloved (the price of empire, eh?) and it is probably easier...

    What's pissing you off today?

Welcome to Cityplannerland! Two years ago our city council floated a bond to improve the streets. Last year they closed all the main north-south streets and worked on them simultaneously. This year they're applying the same strategy to the east-west streets. A former mayor quipped that the...

What 'derp' / 'doh' moment did you have today?

There's an easy, bloodless solution staring you right in the face: quit shaving your underarms and affect a French accent. People will think you're exotic. ;)

What were the popular girls like at your high school?

Ours was a middle-class neighborhood, so not much riches. One young lady was the daughter of a very successful lawyer (and a heck of a nice guy), so I'm sure they had money, but she never made big deal out of it. Quite a few were pretty, but most fell into the 'plain, but attractive'...

Do rich families force gender roles on their children?

Your question has a problem with quantification. As it stands, 'Do rich parents force gender roles on their children? has two possible interpretations: (1) do some rich parents force gender roles on their children?, and (2) do all rich parents force gender roles on their children? To the best...

    Steak and a blowtorch?

Maybe not, since the first recipe they tout on that webpage is for 'cranberry-apricot glazed chicken.' :)

What are you happy about today?

I have just had cataract surgery, and it was successful. So, in addition to no longer going blind (always a plus), my vision is so improved that, for the first time since I was seven years old, I do not have to wear glasses. Life is good. Visibly so. :)

    What's most important?

Character. Will this person be honest with me? Is she compassionate or self-centered? Generous -- not just with money, but with her time and attention -- or greedy? Resourceful or a drama queen? Independent or a clinging vine? Beauty and youth are charming, but they don't last; integrity does.
