    A Matter of Thirds

Hey, it's that word game I created. To refresh the rules: Each puzzle consists of three words. The three words are linked by the fact that they can be used with a fourth word, either before or after each of the original three to form a cohesive phrase. For example! If the words are...

    The show your face/introduction thread

Hello, everyone. It's me, Hap, or Pensta, depending on your abbreviative preference. I'm not new here, but it's been a long time and I am doubtful of being remembered. Anyhow, most of the answers to my survey thing have changed, so I might as well fill it out again. Name: Names are so...

Meeting on the net vs the IRL random face to face

I've played with the idea of meeting someone in person whom I had become acquaintances with online, but it's a fence I am yet to allow myself through. It does help with people-filtering to some degree, but then it's also very easy to pretend you're someone you aren't through the screen. I...

I "tricked" my parents this year

I almost had that happen. Sort of. My mother said I was looking a bit thinner, then stepped back a bit and added, 'I think'. It was probably the shirt, I was actually fifteen pounds heavier.

How much weight does everybody want to gain in 2009

Is it wise to make plans so close to the apocalypse? Let's say 40 pounds for 2009 for me. Kind of arbitrary though, since I've nearly given up on goals, as I never seem to follow them very well.

The last movie you watched... and score out of ten - Part 1

The Breakfast Club - 8/10 Very well written and portrayed, the soundtrack is the only thing that really condemns this film forever into the category of 80s films. Clearly source material for later films and television series that focus on high school stereotypes, but the difference here is...

What do you all think on this issue?

For the record, it's no crime to be just not that into public displays of affection. I have mixed feelings about thread necromancy.

Not troupe. Think more seasonal. Oh, and I suppose if this were a crossword puzzle, there would be a question mark at the end of the clue.

Calabash squash? Also, are you opposed to 'plant' questions... that is, questions we have an answer to, but which we might like to see answered in such a column?

"L'Obésité dans le monde" ["Obesity in the World"]

Good find, Sue! Does anyone know of size acceptance websites or anything of the sort in other languages? I do believe that quotidiennement means daily. Having lived in Montreal for two years now, how I do wish my French were better.

Share your own tactics or stories of staircase wit.

Sometimes I wish I were in situations like yours, Sue. I prepare all sorts of responses that I never get to use! Of course, this goes for a lot of things, since one of my favourite hobbies/neuroses is going through hypothetical conversations with people in my mind, which rarely come to be.

No Fat People In America - The Ahmadinejad Effect

In September 2007, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad famously stated of his home Iran: 'We don't have homosexuals like in your country. We don't have that in our country. We don't have this phenomenon; I don't know who's told you we have it.' One could say he was ignorant of his own citizens, or turning...
