    Today I Learned...

TIL I learned that The Weather Channel has no good reason to name a winter storm, other than to sensationalize it on social media. I expected as much. On another note, we may have a Winter Storm Gandalf, and a Winter Storm Q, and that excites me. EDIT: KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

The One NON-DIMS RELATED Thing Annoying You Most Right Now Part Trois.

The prospect of going to Walmart today (you know, last Friday before Christmas) after an exhausting marathon of grading tests and papers for the past four days. Nutrition be damned. Where's my Dr. Pepper?!

What's on the dinner table tonight?

Probably ham & gouda in puff pastry. Or pizza. Something like that. The delivery of a balanced mixture of carbohydrates and proteins is the primary aim at present.

    12.21.12 - Check In!

North America still seems to be here. Apparently the "end of the world as we know it," according to the Mayans, is simply a move towards an era of collectivism... the so-called "end of individualism."

What is making you SAD right now...

My metamorphosis leads to the irrelevance of my present surroundings. May the people within it be well, but may they also let me fly when my chrysalis is complete.

    One Completely Random Sentence...

Hold tight: It's New Year's Eve and we'll be cold tonight. Kill the heat and shut out all the lights and cut the phone line too. Alright, We don't need nothing but cyanide. Pulled out teeth--won't be identified. What would you have me do? You got it.

    Today I Learned...

What disturbing and/or interesting thing did you learn today? TIL that my usual forum username (not bbwlibrarian) has been stolen by a cam whore. So, if someone decides to stalk me on the internet, they'll think I'm a fat, cheap, exbrarian English teacher writer otaku person that makes a...

    90's Music Anyone?

of the Britpop era: Pulp - "Common People" (an aside: I've always had a mini-crush on Jarvis Cocker.) Blur - "Girls and Boys" Oasis - "Supersonic" The Lightning Seeds - "Change" (yay for the Clueless soundtrack!) Supergrass - "Alright" (...ditto.) shoegazers: My Bloody Valentine -...

What Are You EATING right now?

I buy these in bulk the day after Christmas. Peppermint is the cure for IBS, I swear. Plus, they are superior.

The HOTTER Boy Thread (aka: The Hot Boy Thread - The Sequel)

James May: Better than thou art. Sexiest hair in this thread. Serenades ladies with his mighty lute. Has a bandolier of Tampax...for those jobs that need extra absorbancy. Builds a house out of Lego bricks, just because he can.

The Thread for Random Single Confessions Part ... I don't know what Part

IC that if I ever reach the end of this pile of papers, that I will engage in an embarrassing happy dance in a public setting, and I will feel no shame about it.

    Favorite Poem?

Appropriate for this forum: the incomparable late, great Lucille Clifton reads "homage to my hips."

Chocolate truffles. I have a long night ahead. Damn you, Freshman papers.

    Favorite Poem?

Resurrecting this thread, in lieu of making a new one. I've just discovered (rediscovered?) the poetry of Adrienne Rich, and I'm loving it. Here's what I'm digging so far: "A Valediction Forbidding Mourning" My swirling wants. Your frozen lips. The grammar turned and attacked me. Themes...

It's healthier that way, I think. If they're monsters, they should be treated as such--imaginary phantoms under the bed.

    FA and BBW Otakus

Oh God... this show had the worst Engrish songs sometimes. It made me LOL so hard.

    How to make a Twinkie

I've preferred Little Debbie over Hostess for years, due to cost. Being in the South helps, too. Of course, if I knew that I was supporting a union with my Hostess purchase, I might have bought their products more often. Plus, Little Debbie doesn't make Zingers.

    Retail sizing

I guess the size is supposed to correspond with the age of the wearer. In seriousness, though, "Juniors" clothing is designed for women with a shorter body (5'4" on average, vs. 5'6"), a higher bust (presumably assuming that older women have more, er, lift issues?), and a smaller waist-to-hip...

    Wendy Thomas commercials for Wendy's

LOVE Wendy and her style. She shows that you can be a professional woman and still be a BBW. She's not over the top, but she's confident, and has no apologies.

    Share Your Poetry

A little back story on this poem: This was originally written in 2006, when I was about to graduate from college. I wasn't terribly happy with some of the choices I made prior to that point, and I was hoping for a "do over." So, I wrote a rather depressing four-stanza poem using the Pantoum...
