In the United States we have a tradition of civilian control of the military. This means senior active duty military officers do not criticize elected civilian leaders. General McChystal appears to have violated that tradition.

This is a story from Fox News,

This the same story from the AP via Yahoo. The AP story lacks some details from the Fox story, but basically backs it up. The AP story also includes a zinger at the end.

What this story really highlights is the depth of concern by senior members of our military over their civilian bosses. Are the really up to the job? Are they really competent in carrying out the responsibilities? Are they in over their heads?

For people with doubts about President Obama the Fox story will surly resonate.

Note: McChystal's days are numbered. No President can allow such disrespect in the ranks. But, the fact there is such deep feelings should cause thinking people to pause.
