It saddens me to hear of the passing of Gerald Levert today. I wasn't a big fan of his but I certainly recognized the amazing vocal chords he was born with. I also appreciated the fact he wanted to continue the tradition of REAL soul music, the tradition his legendary dad Eddie Levert of The Ojays helped to shape. Neither of the Leverts needed a rapper to help sell their songs.
Gerald was a big man talent-wise and in physical stature as well and I know those that WERE true fans of his will keep his spirit alive. The guy was only 40. Suffered from a heart attack.
BTW, if you'd like to catch a glimpse of his talent, go rent the stellar documentary "Standing in The Shadow of Motown". It's an amazing film about the uncredited musicians that played on the vast majority of all those hundreds of Motown hits ALL of us were raised on.
