Hi Folks,
I thought I'd run something by you all to see what you reckon...
When I set my company up it was with the express purpose of providing big women with a choice in clothing. There were very very few places I could buy clothes at all, and those that did sell my size only had variations on the polyester tent dresses. I wanted to offer a real alternative and sell the clothes I felt big women really wanted; contemporary styles, body conscious cutting, luxury rather than utility, clothes where curves and sexiness were celebrated rather than just hidden.
But, I have so many enquiries from ladies who want tent dresses. They really want loose styles with detail around the neck and then flowing out into yards and yards of fabric and they wont be deflected. For a long time I just either talked over alternatives with them and then, if they couldn't be persuaded, I helped find them suppliers who could help them.
But I've crumbled. A good friend of mine wanted a dress and begged, cajoled and pleaded until I gave in. I've made my very first tent dress and I've already had calls from other ladies who have heard and want similar dresses.
So the actual dilemma is this; Am I selling out by compromising my principles and selling these dresses?
I cant decide if I'm damaging the size acceptance/love your body movement by making these? Am I just being a capitalist running dog by taking their money? Alternatively am I fulfilling my original plan by supplying the clothes that these women want even if they're not to my personal taste?
The bottom line is, I've made the dress and sold it and the profit will help develop new sexy contemporary styles but I'm still slightly uncomfortable with it all. Part of me thinks I should take some pictures of it to put on the site so other people can buy but I'm worried it will put my other group of customers off from shopping with me.
So what do you reckon? I'd welcome your thoughts and comments here. (And I'll give you a BIG discount if you order one - JOKE!!)
Thanks - Tracey xx
