Dear Hyde Park denizens,

With midterm elections only about 20 days away, I thought it might be helpful to post a reminder of Da Rules of Hyde Park. I encourage regular posters to periodically re-read Da Rules anyway. They include the following:

Stick with discussing issues rather than attacking individuals -- the latter may result in deletions or loss/curtailing of posting privileges. And faking quotes is a total no-no. You do, you gone.

3) Respect the right of others to have their own religious or political convictions without being called names on that account. This includes polictical affiliations like Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, liberals, and the like. Those who can't be tolerant can't post.

4) If a moderator suggests by a private message that you cool it, listen. Else you may wind up having to get posts pre-approved or not being able to post at all.

The closer the election comes, the uglier and more frantic some of the posts seem. Please remember that all of us are adults and that we are all entitled to our own opinions. We can engage in lively debate while still respecting other people's opinions. Calling supporters of a political movement or inclination morons, or loonies, or bozos, or possessed of a first-grade reading comprehension level -- are insulting and do not add anything to discussions.

Moderators will mod, edit, and infract as needed in the runup to the election and in the weeks following to ensure that debate remains both lively and civil.

Thank you.
