An event yesterday triggers this question. My wife ran into a colleague she hadn't seen for a few years. The colleague is in her late forties or early fifties with about 30 years of service (i.e. she's eligible to retire). She told my wife she'd like to retire but can't because she needs her medical insurance.

COBRA coverage would be available for at least 18 months (29 if Social Security deemed her disabled) but after that she'd be on her own until she qualified for Medicare. She'd be on her own because no private insurance company would write a policy on a middle aged woman who weighs more than 600 pounds.

Obamacare, with its community rating provisions, would allow this fat lady (and millions of others) to for the first time purchase health insurance. Thus once Obamacare goes into effect my wife's colleague will be free to retire.

So my question is: How can people on this board -- a board dedicated to fat rights -- oppose Obamacare?
