Unlike many, I am sort of ambivalent about blogs. Like most Johnny-come-lately phenomena, blogs have received an extraordinary degree of publicity. They're now used to disseminate company information and broadcast the words of wisdom of untold experts and millions of others. The way I see it, blogs are really little more than electronic diaries, and just vanity projects for most. Of course, we live in the era of "reality TV," so why not opening a few million little windows into people's personal lives. And populate the internet with a few million tiny little soapboxes.

All that said, I, too, of course, write a couple. They are technical and off the beaten track. I also installed blog server software on my machines. Primarily because I wanted to see how they work and whether they could be used to handle an industrial-strength blogging system. They can.

So I've begun thinking of perhaps adding a blogging section to Dimensions and populate it with perhaps a dozen blogs on different topics, written by people who have something to say in those respective areas. In a sense, it'd be like the many columns that we used to have in the print version.

Whatcha all think?
