Well not all night, but I went back to the archives and pulled out the charts and all my tunes from December 1, 1962. Found some interesting stuff...

Highlights...

40..."You Are My Sunshine" Ray Charles...there's probably someone more talented than him, but I can't think of one...maybe Stevie Wonder?

38..."Mama Sang A Song" Walter Brennan....follow-up to "Old Rivers." Has anyone in Hollywood had a more distinctive voice?

35..."I Left My Heart In San Francisco" Tony Bennett....one of the lushest pop songs ever by a national treasure.

31..."Monster Mash" Bobby 'Boris' Pickett & the Crypt Kickers....not the first or the last DJ to have a big hit...the Big Bopper and Rick Dees come to mind.

20..."Rumors" Johnny Crawford...yeah Mark from "The Rifleman." Pretty good voice.

18..."(Dance With The) Guitar Man" Duane Eddy....conspicuously the only real rock and roll song in the survey and the Beatles were still over a year away.

17..."Only Love Can Break A Heart" Gene Pitney....forgotten hit-maker. In those days, he was as automatic a hit as say, Justin Timberlake is today. One of Burt Bacharach's first customers.

the top 12:

12..."The Cha-Cha-Cha" Bobby Rydell...saw him on one of those Time-Life music infomercials the other night.
11..."Gina" Johnny Mathis
10..."Next Door To An Angel" Neil Sedaka...it wasn't long after that that his 13 year chart hiatus began
9...."He's A Rebel" Crystals....girl group of that era, interesting
8...."Ride!" DeeDee Sharp
7...."The Lonely Bull" Tijuana Brass....after that it was Herb Alpert & the...but heck, he was the A in A & M records
6...."Don't Hang Up" Orlons...anyone remember that from the "Dennis the Menace" movie?
5...."All Alone Am I" Brenda Lee...another automatic hit in her day
4...."Limbo Rock" Chubby Checker...."The Twist" was about to make a comeback, the song that is..
3...."Bobby's Girl" Marcie Blane
2...."Return To Sender" Elvis Presley...by this time Elvis still was having hits but he really wasn't a rocker anymore and oh those dreadful movies...
1...."Big Girls Don't Cry" Four Seasons....very appropriate :)
