Many people: social conservatives, Tea People, talk radio hosts, some people on this forum ... repeatedly state that America has lost its way and is in a state of decline from its former glory.
To these folks I'd like to pose the following questions:
1) If you were (or are) an African American would you rather be living today or in 1955?
2) If you were (or are) a woman would you rather be living today or in 1955?
3) If you were (or are) gay would you rather be living today or in 1955?
4) If you were (or are) disabled would you rather be living today or in 1955?
If people answer honestly I think it becomes obvious that for many people today's America is a far better place than any imagined America of the past.
