Rather dry and technical at points; this does make some sense of the perennial snarkfests that characterize HP. Just one possible explanation of course but it seems to fulfill Occam's standard for plausibility. http://hplusmagazine.com/editors-bl...fluctuations-and-disagreement-social-networks It also seems to imply HP-like scenarios are destined to be prevalent, especially on teh internetss and more so where no member selection criteria are enforced.
Boiled down to it's most non-technical conclusion: When the society contains stubborn agents with different opinions, opinion dynamics never lead to a consensus (among the regular agents). Instead, beliefs in the society almost surely fail to converge, and the belief of each regular agent converges in law to a non-degenerate random variable."
My translation: Hard-headed mofo's never give up and they often get worse (even more intransigent). And so it goes.
