Here is a picture of a dress I just finished for my neice to wear to her first day of Kindergarten. She is now five.

It is a fine ribbed corduroy.

If anyone has sewn with fine corduroy, it is a pain. This was the first corduroy outfit I have made. The manner in which the fabric is woven makes it hard to produce a strng seam without the stiches easily pulled out. I found that the only way I could manage to produce a good seam was with an overlock serger and then it was difficult. If you do not own a serger, do not consider sewing with fine ribbed corduroy. I like the look of this dress in corduroy, but if I had to make a second dress, I would be considering a cotton fabric.
