I have recently gained a (step) nephew who is 16 years and has autism. He also has cerebral palsy. My nephew does not talk, except a few noises and random words here and there. I am trying to form a relationship with him, but it is hard. I find without the words that it is hard to know if he is getting who I am and why I am around him. He also does not tend to look me in the eyes, or let me hug him and stuff like that.

His mother tells me that he is taking to me quicker than he does most people. That is good, but still I am struggling on how to relate to him. If anyone has any experience with this, please give me some clues.
