Hey gang! I'm assuming many of you are familiar with the show The Amazing Race. Well, this past season featured a pair of hippy guys from San Francisco--Tyler and B.J. They were mine and my girlfriend's FAVORITE team of ANY season. They were just as kind and as personable as could be. As a matter of fact you may recall that they came in first place and WON the million dollars!
Well, this past Saturday night at a Trader Joe's in the Bay Area, my girlfriend sees tall skinny Tyler at the check-out stand. She runs up to him and gushes over how ecstatic she is to meet him and he seems to be just as genuinely happy to meet her. I see her talking to this tall lanky blonde guy and I'm assuming she's applying for a job there (she talked about doing so). She sees me and waves me in. She excitedly reminds me who this person is (he looked extremely familiar but I just assumed it was one of the Trader Joe's personnel we'd come to know). My mind is blown after she tells me who it is. Tyler!! The first thing he does is give me a big hug with those loving lengthy stick arms of his. Such a sweet guy! My GF rushes him to her car to give him one of her CDs and he pulls out his own camera in the parking lot to have his friend take a pic of he and her (which he says he'll email to her later).
Anyways, it was an inspiring meeting as Tyler and B.J. made this season of our favorite show sooo much fun.
Oh, and Tyler told her he would email her a link to a documentary he made about himself. We actually found that video on the internet when we ran a search on him that night. I know most people don't have the time to look at every video a stranger on the net recommends to you, but this film Tyler made "Kintaro Walks Japan" is nothing short of magnificent. I really, really, really can't recommend this little film strong enough. It's already won numerous film festival awards and Tyler achievements in Japan have made him a legend in that country. Since this film was made before he was accepted to be on The Amazing Race, one has to assume what he accomplished in Japan IS why he was picked for the show.
Enjoy.
