♫ ♫ We'll send him cheesy movies,
The worst we can find (la-la-la).
He'll have to sit and watch them all,
And we'll monitor his mind (la-la-la).
Now keep in mind Joel can't control
Where the movies begin or end (la-la-la)
Because he used those special parts
To make his robot friends. ♫ ♫
Did you love Mystery Science Theater 3000? Were the Thanksgiving Marathons the only that kept you from drowning in Aunt Esther's oyster gravy? Does the title "Manos: The Hands Of Fate" actually mean something to you? lol
If you answered yes, you will probably enjoy Rifftrax! "an innovative new site featuring the hilarious DVD commentaries of Michael J. Nelson, head writer and star of the legendary Mystery Science Theater 3000!"
The idea is that you buy or rent the DVDs of selected movie titles, plug 'em in and watch while listening to a downloaded commentary from Rifftrax (under $3.00 ea. for now - a bargain!). We've discovered it's even easier if you record the movie on Tivo or DVR since it doesn't have that annoying DVD-pause. It's just like MSTie, minus the visuals, and a couple of robots. There are only a few titles available, some where Mike riffs with a guest (those are better, imo), but more being added all the time.
I've watched five already, and thoroughly enjoyed them. And just in time for the holidays, "Halloween", featuring Mike Nelson AND Kevin Murphy!
Other titles currently available are:
Point Break
Top Gun
XXX
X-Men
Crossroads
Cocktail
Star Trek V
Roadhouse
The Fifth Element
Great fun! Highly recommended!
