Everyone has that loud mouth, obnoxious, person that they work with, or in my case take classes with. There is a woman in several my college courses who just fries everyone's nerves and I agree that she is in no way cut out to be a teacher. That is strictly due to her incompetence and attitude. There are several people in my classes however who feel she would be a bad teacher because she is very overweight !?! what!

They told me this to my face, perhaps they didn't notice that I was fat yet I still won the Distinguished Teacher Candidate Award this year. I'm sorry, I am not going to be a "bad" teacher because I'm fat, I was failing to see the connection.

These people in my classes seem to feel that someone who is overweight would be a bad influence on the children and cause the children to believe that being fat is ok. I can't even tell you how offended I was, and if I went on about the debate that began after I proposed that maybe being fat is ok, I would not stop typing. It occured to me tonight that if they think this, many other people must think this as well. I found a few articles on google, one on how Hawaii had proposed that teachers weigh-in, in order to keep their jobs, and one on a teacher in NY who was fired because of his weight. This is crazy and it scares me a little. On top of our tough economy making jobs hard to find, now I have to worry about my weight holding me back even though I am an award winning student, with a passion to teach, and resume to kill for, and a great GPA. I hope that this is not the case but it does make me wonder.
