So here we are, coming to the end of another year (one I am very happy to see drawing to a close), and I'm wondering what sort of media experiences people have had that they were particularly taken with, disappointed with, annoyed with, or just plain emotional about in some way or another, specifically focussing on multimedia (because I am a complete whore for all things related to entertainment). The catch is that you have to have experienced it in this calendar year, but it does not have to have come out this year (like, for example, if you just now found a film from three years ago and fell in love with it, drop it in!)

For example...

Books: Favourite reads - The City and The City, by China Mieville; 2666, by Roberto Bolano; Genesis, by Bernard Beckett; Ragtime, by E.L. Doctorow.

Least favourite read - Crooked Little Vein, by Warren Ellis (what a piece of shit that was...).

Most surprising read - Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes.

Most disappointing read - Nocturne: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall, by Kazuo Ishiguro

Film: Favourite films - Star Trek, Watchmen, Avatar, District 9.

Least favourite films - Knowing (Alex Proyas, I know you can do better... and fuck you, Nick Cage), 2012.

Most surprising film - Inglorious Basterds (I loved the film, but I was definitely expecting more of a Dirty Dozen tale... will take further viewing to truly digest it)

Most disappointing films - G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (how does a film with TWO NINJAS in it get to be so dull? Oh, right, same director as the Mummy films), A Perfect Getaway, The Box.

Video Games: Favourite game - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Least favourite game - Actually didn't play any crap titles this year, so I have no idea.

Most surprising game - Definitely Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Most disappointing game - InFamous (Love the game, but let down by the story and the ending... I hope they do a sequel though, because the gameplay is good enough to warrant it).

TV: Probably shouldn't really say much here as I watch so little - pretty much just Lost and Galactica, and love both deeply.

So let's hear it - what things have you experienced this year that really carved out a spot in your brains?
