Tea & Strumpets: a burlesque showcase that tastes great, too!
Top names in Boston burlesque show up to support Big Moves
BOSTON, MA. Burlesque and baked goods: two great tastes that come together at last at Tea & Strumpets, an all-star burlesque matinee AND an old-fashioned cakewalk raffle. Tea & Strumpets is taking place on Saturday, March 24th, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at the Milky Way Lounge and Lanes in Jamaica Plain. Tickets are $12/adv., $15 at the door, and all proceeds benefit Big Moves revival of Gargantua at this years Montreal Fringe Festival.
Stepping out to support Big Moves great Northern journey are some of the hottest names in Bostons seething burlesque scene, including guys and dolls from the Boston Babydolls, Black Cat Burlesque, and Babes in Boinkland, along with some of the emcees that make these shows run. (Weve even got a special guest appearance from the Boston Derby Dames!) Of course, Big Moves own Thick will be there with some fresh plus-size stylings, and holding this bag of divas and kittens together is the eminently capable, take-no-crap specialist, Big Moves emcee Alicia Greene.
In addition to the burlesque playbill, Tea & Strumpets is stepping into the reality-show void with a couple of friendly competitions between troupe members (Toss the Garter, anyone?). And off stage, audience members will have the option of taking a round on the cakewalk (like a catwalk, but tastier!) to win one of the cakes donated by local bakeries, including Blue Frog Bakery, Eat Cake, and I Dream of Jeanne Cakes.
Selected by Boston Phoenix readers as the Best Dance Company in 2006, Big Moves is the only producing and training organization in the country dedicated to dedicated to bringing more people of all sizes into the dance studio and up on stage. On the East Coast, Big Moves is a fiscally sponsored project of the Boston Dance Alliance, a 501(c)3 organization.
