The Republican party, at least in theory, tends to value conservative ideals such as religion and accordance to such virtues.

Many blacks have long held conservative beliefs. Ask many black women how they are doing today and they will reply "fine with the help of the Lord'.

The black church continues to have a strong foundation in the lives of many African-Americans. Many historically-black colleges and universities have a strict dress code while their majority white counterparts do not.

"God is good, God is great" is a line often repeated by our elders in the community.

So why can't the Republican party cut a deal with blacks?

The modern Republican party has a lot of work to do in terms of PR. The party is too often plagued by racism and xenophobia with their strong anti-immigrant stance. With that xenophobia and their crucifixion of Sotomayor, they have also turned off the Latino voters who tend to hold conservative beliefs, as well.
