Boundaries Are For Those Who Need Them

by Jujuspice93

Part 1

Edith Malinroe was said to be one of the most frightening women on earth. She had tan skin, dark eyes, and a lean figure with a cat-like face. Her dark hair was perfect in any way she had it and she looked good in anything. She had a devilish personality, a Cheshire Cat smile, and snake eyes that made even the sturdiest tremble. An adrenaline junkie who always wanted to push over the edge, Edi, as she liked to be called, was dangerous. Except to one.

It would seem odd, though, that such a couple would arise. A woman that looked and moved more like a goddess than a human, and a man who was actually big enough to be a god. At least, that’s what everyone had said about David. He knew he had surpassed obese long ago and was now moving slowly into the realm of immobility, but with the help of his wife Edi, he was moving towards it a slower rate than others thought possible.

He stared down at his gargantuan form and for a moment, tried to remember the exact details of his feet now hidden by his colossal belly. It was ironic that one could forget their own body part. Once in a while, Edi would take a picture and show him his lower form, or they’d stand in front of a mirror together. What he did remember were two swollen feet that looked more like overly filled latex gloves where the fingers looked more like dots. Even worse, he could barely feel them.

So it was, on that Friday morning, as they lay in a custom-made bed, made for a man of nearly 800 pounds, that David found himself trying to move his feet with his wife in bed. He tried concentrating on it for a while and with all of his might, pushed to try and make his foot raise even an inch, but he should have known better. He had immediately felt the stirrings in his stomach, a great force that would help and hinder him. He felt it travel down him and cringed as a loud and monstrous yell of gas escaped him. He let go of the breath he had been holding and turned his head to the left to see Edi still fast asleep underneath the covers. He smiled at the fact that this time he hadn’t woken her, but when one ate such great quantities of food, they were bound to have a turbulent stomach once in a while.

He stared at his wife of one year closely and only because of the numerous pillows that propped him up. Edi had seen to that. In fact, she had seen to most things that made his life so much more vibrant and comfortable had it only been him.

David Malinroe had always been large. His whole family had been large. His father died when he was 65 because his heart couldn’t hold out on the amount of force it needed to sustain his body. David was convinced he’d more than likely go out in a similar way. So, with that in mind and the fact that his childhood had been obscure due to his weight and wealth, he had remained a recluse until seven years ago.

It hadn’t been by choice that Edi be entrusted into him, in fact, if he had had it his way, Edi would have never entered his life. She was only 18 when his liaison to one of the numerous charities he benefited approached him. She wondered if he would be willing to befriend a troubled, young girl who was need of stability and isolation, as she had put it.

David didn’t even need troubled to say no. The fact was he didn’t want anyone in his life except for the few that he had allowed. It wasn’t because he wasn’t friendly, no; everyone who knew him liked him regardless of his size and often not because of his money. He was friendly and kind, willing to listen and laugh, but he was a recluse. Maybe it was because of his limited mobility; maybe it was due to the fact that even at an early age he was proven to be a genius, or maybe it was because of his overall odd childhood, he didn’t know. However, the woman twisted his arm to the point that he had to agree.

And that is how the troubled, misguided, and little hellion Edith had landed in his life.
