Adult Contemporary music is not a music style, nor is Pop. They are simply marketing terms at the most, the former being current sounds aimed at a 30-50 something audience, the latter simply is short for popular, or flavor of the moment.

In terms of Adult Contemporary music, like Frank Sinatra in the 50's and 60's, the Carpenters and Barry Manilow in the 70's, perhaps what Elton John became in the 80's, Celine Dion was the AC giant of the 90's. Her middle of the road Pop sound was a staple at "less talk" and mainstream Top 40 before the domination of R & B and Alternative Rock sounds of this decade. Celine is a superstar of the first tier, not because of her radio success; but rather, her 5 year dominance in Las Vegas. An artist who can fill an arena, a stadium, or headline a resort or the resort circuit and command $200 a ticket is a superstar. Celine Dion fills the billing.

Here's the Celine Dion top 10:

10. "Beauty & the Beast" .../Peabo Bryson (1992)
9.. "That's the Way It Is" (2000)
8.. "All By Myself" (1997)
7.. "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" (1991)
6.. "If You Asked Me To" (1992)
5.. "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" (1996)
4.. "My Heart Will Go On (Love Theme From 'Titanic')" (1998)
3.. "The Power Of Love" (1994)
2.. "I'm Your Angel" R. Kelly/.... (1998)
1.. "Because You Loved Me" (1996)

because it's fun..
