~BBW, Eating, Romance, ~SWG - The story of one girl’s oblivious weight gain . . .
[Note: this little gem, a candidate for the discard room due to lack of conclusion, incited repeated calls for continuation. Hopefuly this version fits the bill. For the record, the beginning by an otherwise unheard from writer, was excellent]
'Thank goodness!!' Sierra sighed, as she headed towards the parking lot.
She had just gotten off of her long shift working in the food court at Target. Today was a 1-9pm day, and she was truly grateful it was over. She got into her beat up Ford Escort; careful not to spill the bag of going to be thrown out anyway snacks she’d taken from work. It was a new job, but one for which in three weeks she’d already acquired a taste-driven habit.
As she pulled out of the parking lot, she grabbed a muffin and took a glance at the wrapper while tearing it open.
'Wow, 290 calories in this little thing?' she gasped out loud. 'Well, I am only gonna eat one, so it won’t matter. Good, a red light, now I can get this dang wrapper off!'
It was a banana nut muffin, one of her favorites. She had already finished it by the time the light had turned green.
'Man, I really must have been hungry,' she said aloud to herself. 'Good thing I have a great metabolism, with all the crap I’ve been eating I should really start watching myself though; they say it can catch up with you and you won’t notice till it's too late!'
Not that Sierra had anything to worry about. At 5' 5" and only 103 lbs, she was definitely thin. People constantly told her how lucky she was, and she knew it. She didn’t have the largest breasts, they were just barely a B cup, and her butt was pretty tiny too. Tiny enough to fit into a size 1 pants. She had long dark brown hair that she occasionally highlighted with nice blonde chunks. She was average, with light green eyes that she disguised with dark blue contacts, and fair skin.
She wasn’t very outspoken, usually keeping to herself, especially when it came to guys. She had a boyfriend, Isaiah, but he was away in the military, their only contact was through postal mail and occasional phone calls. She was a sweet girl, not the brightest, which is why she’d not gone on to college after graduation, but always kind. She’d had several temporary jobs in the two years since graduating, but this one seemed permanent. That’s why she’d finally broken her home ties and moved into an apartment of her own.
As she pulled into her driveway, she thought about the week ahead of her. She was planning on joining the local Y with Janie, her close friend since junior high. Janie had spent the summer in Europe with her boyfriend Tony, and had gotten back a few weeks before. They’d been gadding about visiting his relatives and had just been jabbering by cell phone..
"I hope Janie feels like coming over tonite; it’s bee"n so lonely with her gone all summer," Sierra thought to herself, as she unlocked the front door. She threw her stuff on the kitchen counter, and grabbed the cordless as she headed to her bedroom. She took her shirt off, then dialed Janie's cell number.
While the phone rang, she admired herself in the dresser mirror. "Wow, these pants fit me good," she thought, as she turned around to check out her butt in the mirror.
'Hello?'
'Janie, hey how’s it going?!'
'Hey, Sierra! What’s up?! I just got home; Tony and I were out shopping all day. U feel like getting together? I got so much to talk about!' Janie exclaimed, happy to be talking to her best friend.
'Yeah, that’s why I was calling, considering we haven’t talked in over a WEEK!! I am feeling a little lonely!' Sierra teased. ' So see you in about 10 minutes?'
'Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. Want me to pick anything up? I’m starving!!' Janie replied.
Even though Sierra had been snacking pretty much all day at work, she was still feeling a little hungry herself. Her recent increased consumption had expanded her stomach's capacity. 'Yeah, grab some burgers or something. You know what I like.'
After they hung up, Sierra threw on her favorite sweats and a tee shirt from when she played volleyball in high school. She sat on the couch, and flipped through the tv channels, stopping on vh1. They were doing a story on Britney Spears, talking about her recent marriage. Wow, she is getting chubby, Sierra thought." So that's what marriage does to you, huh? She just got too comfortable!"
She got up and went into the kitchen, grabbing another muffin from the bag on the counter. "Hmmm, the monster muffin or the chocolate chip... I think I will try the monster muffin." She tore off the wrapper, not even glancing at the calorie count. No one would have guessed that with a glass of milk it packed almost 500 calories.
Before summer, when Sierra and Janie had gone to the Y to see if they liked it enough to get an actual membership, they had met with a fitness coach to discuss their weight, and what they needed to do to either maintain their current weight, or to lose a few pounds. Based on the calculations at the time, neither girl needed to lose weight. But to maintain hers, Sierra needed to eat no more than 1900 calories a day. However, since getting the job at Target food court, she had been snacking all day long, sometimes eating as much as 3000 calories a day!! In three weeks she’d gained four pounds without noticing it.
Just as she finished the last bite of the muffin, she heard the front door open. 'Hey Janie!! I am so glad you are here; I am just dying of boredom!! ' Sierra cried, as she ran to hug her best friend. 'Mmmm those burgers smell so good!! I am starved!'
'Oh I know, me too! Let me just get this coat off and we will chow!' Janie set her purse and the bags on the counter, and proceeded to take off her jacket.
Sierra was a little shocked to see her best friend. The last time they had seen each other was about 3 months ago, before her European trip, and since then it appeared as though she had gained at least 20 lbs! Her jeans were skin tight, with nascent love handles hanging over the sides. Her now beefy arms took up the entire armhole of her short sleeve tee. You could see the swell of her belly under the tee, and an indent where it lay tight over her belly button.
As Janie looked up at Sierra, she quickly diverted her eyes to the bags of food, not wanting Janie to know she had noticed the weight. Janie hadn’t mentioned anything during their many phone calls, and she really didn’t want to hurt her feelings.
'Wow, your hair really lightened up! It must have been really warm and sunny there!' Sierra exclaimed, as she rummaged through the bag, pulling out the sandwiches and fries.
'Yeah, it was so beautiful there, I loved it!! We spent most of our time on a beach near the hotel, so I got a pretty good tan' Janie said, as she pulled up her shirt to show Sierra the darkness of her skin on her belly.
Sierra was in shock to see how chubby her friend's stomach was. This was the girl who played every sport in high school, who had been in gymnastics since grade school. How could she let herself go?!
'So, what here is yours and what's mine?'
'Oh, the 2 Big Macs are mine, and I grabbed you a couple of quarter pounders and then we each got a large fry. Oh blast, they didn’t give me my soda!' Janie cried, and went to the fridge to grab a can.
'Wow, how do you miss a soda?' Sierra joked.
'Shut up! I was more hungry than thirsty, I didn’t even think about it!!' Janie laughed.
The two best friends ate their sandwiches and sat and talked 'til about 2 am. 'Wow, I can’t believe how late it is, I better get going. I gotta take my mom to a doctor’s appointment in the morning!' Janie exclaimed.
'Yeah, I am pretty tired myself. Do you still wanna sign up at the Y? They have a Pilates class that I thought would be fun', Sierra stated. 'And it really seems a little exercise would help you,' she thought to herself, as Janie threw on her coat.
'Oh, I don’t know. With me starting the new job at the bank, I can’t guarantee I will have the time. Let’s talk about it tomorrow. Wanna get together for lunch?'
'Sure, I will call your cell around noon. Better yet, just wanna meet at Olive Garden around then?'
Janie grabbed her purse, and pulled out her car keys, 'I was thinking Olive Garden too! That sounds great. See you tomorrow then!'
The next morning, Sierra woke up around 10. 'Wow, I better get going, I still gotta stop at the post office, and send out those packages to Isaiah!' She took a quick shower, then threw on her white capris and a light pink tee. She didn’t even notice the slight roundness to her stomach. Then again, she hadn't npticed the extra 1500 calories a day she had been taking in for nearly a month.
She pulled into a parking space at the post office. Cool, I got the closest spot, she thought to herself. This just might be a pretty good day! And her suspicion was confirmed when she walked in and seen her ex, Max, standing behind the counter. He had broken up with her in their last year of high school, never really gave a reason.
'Sierra, wow! I haven’t seen you in about 2 years!' Max said, smiling as she walked up to the counter. ' Your hair is different, a lot longer than it used to be!'
'Hi Max. Yes, it has been awhile! What have you been up to?' she asked, as she set the packages up on the counter.
'Not a whole lot, just working here. I seen Janie the other day. Wow, has she changed! Not to the point where you wouldn’t recognize her, but it’s definitely not the same Janie that I remember! She is really letting herself go!'
'Max, that is so cruel!! You should know better than to criticize a woman's weight!'
'Ha, so you noticed too; I never said anything about her weight, all I said was she looked different. I coulda meant her hair, her clothes...' he trailed off.
'Come on, I know what you meant. That was one reason we didn’t last, you were way to critical. Way too judgmental,' she replied, starting to get annoyed.
'No, we didn’t last cause I couldn’t take your constant complaining, or the fact that you never had interest in doing anything fun and interesting,' he said, while labeling the packages.
'Max, let’s not get into it, what do I owe you to get these mailed out?' she questioned, a little ticked off. She pulled out her checkbook. 'You got a pen?'
'Let’s see, total is gonna be $27 .59,' he said, tossing a pen on the counter for her.
She wrote out the check and handed it to him , and he gave her the receipt. 'Well, it was nice to see you,' he said.
'Yeah, good to see you too. See you around,' and with that she headed out the door. She got into her car, still a little pissed off.
"Well, I am glad we broke up. Isaiah is so much better for me anyway. But hey, I guess I’m not the only one to notice Janie's weight gain. I wonder if she even noticed. She had to, by how tight her pants are! They can’t possibly be comfortable!"
She glanced down at her watch, seeing that it was quarter to twelve. She figured she might as well head to the restaurant, seeing as it was only about 6 blocks away.+
'So what are you gonna order? I am thinking of getting the unlimited soup and salad. It seems like a good deal,' Sierra said, flipping through the menu.
'Yeah, me too. Man, I love these breadsticks! I don’t see how anyone can manage on that Atkins diet!!' Janie cried, as she tore apart her 4th breadstick.
'Hey, give me one! You know I love those too!' Sierra teased. She loved bread. There was noting better than warm breadsticks!
They had a total of 12 bowls of soup between the 2 of them and each had 2 salads. After they paid the bill, Janie asked Sierra if she wanted to get ice cream.
'Yeah, that sounds good. I have been craving a banana split!'
Later that night, as Sierra sat on the couch watching the news after picking up a burger combo and baked potato at Wendy’s, she snacked on some cookies from work. She didn’t even realize how many she had eaten until she reached into the container and there were only crumbs.
'Man, I am still hungry. I wonder if there is any more of those snack cakes left?'. She opened up the cupboard and found a box of ho-ho's with caramel. 'Mmmmm, I love these.' She grabbed 3 of them. After she finished watching the ten o'clock news, she decided to head to bed. From all the snacking her belly was bulging and her sweat pants were slightly cutting into her waist. But Sierra didn’t even notice. As she slid under the covers, she closed her eyes and fell fast asleep.
Over the next month Sierra got a lot of hours at work, seeing as the food court manager was on maternity leave. She worked six days a week, the 1-9 shift. The food court wasn’t real busy, which left a lot of time to sit around and read magazines and snack. Sierra hated to throw away food that was considered "expired" just cause it was a day old, so she tended to eat much of it.
She had muffins, cookies, hot dogs, pretzels with cheese, nachos, and occasionally sub sandwiches. Her pants were gradually getting tighter, with a roll slightly hanging over the top of her pants. She was starting to gain weight in her hips and thighs too, making her work pants a little harder to pull up.
Sierra was oblivious to the changes. With not having her boyfriend home, she wasn’t putting a lot of effort into her makeup or keeping up on highlighting her hair. She was starting to look a little frumpy. If she wasn’t working then she was sitting home in her sweats watching the celebrity gossip shows.
On a Sunday morning she decided to call Janie to see if she wanted to go to lunch. Since Janie also had a busy work schedule, they hadn’t seen each other in over a month, not since they went out to eat at Olive Garden. They still talked on the phone all the time though. Janie thought lunch was a great idea. They decided to meet at Chili's.
Sierra rummaged through her closet for something comfortable to wear. She grabbed a black tank top and a pair of running pants. She had a little trouble getting the running pants up over her hips. She wasn’t really concerned; she was too busy thinking about the ribs and steak she was going order for lunch. The tank too was pretty tight, and she didn’t just have love handles, but her belly was hanging over the top of the pants.
Had she owned a scale, she would known that she had gained 10 lbs in the past seven weeks. And ALL of it had gone to her stomach, waist, hips and thighs. Sitting down, you wouldn’t even know she had gained weight, seeing as her arms were still real skinny and her breasts still pretty small. She was beginning to look pear shaped.
Sierra got to the restaurant first, so she grabbed a table. She scanned the menu and asked the waitress to bring the nacho platter appetizer. She also ordered a Long Island ice tea. The appetizer came before Janie did, so Sierra started on it. 15 minutes later, the nachos were gone, and Janie still hadn’t showed up. 'Where could she be? It’s been a half hour already!!' Just as she was going to get up to use the rest room, Janie showed up.
Sierra was shocked at Janie's appearance. She had on a skirt that used to fit; it dug so tight into her waist that she had a huge roll all around the top. She had on a plum colored tube top, and her arms had gotten very fatty. Not to mention her chest had gone from a full B to at least a large C. She had gotten her hair cut pretty short, with slight layering, and all that did was accent her newly developed double chin. She actually had a waddle when she walked!
'Sorry! I know I am late, I just got out of a work meeting and they had this huge lunch buffet set out, and my boss said I had to at least eat something, so I had a couple plates.'
She sat down and threw her purse up on the table. Her arms jiggled. 'Good thing I didn’t have too much at the lunch buffet, I love Chili's!' she exclaimed, as she patted her very prominent belly.
'Uh, it’s ok about you being late. I ordered an appetizer but I was starved, and I kinda ate it. But I didn’t order lunch yet. By the way, I like your skirt; it’s really cute. Didn’t you wear that to Amy’s wedding in February?' Sierra asked, somewhat alarmed at how fast she had outgrown a skirt that Janie had worn only 7 months ago.
'Yeah, it is. I am a little ticked off, this skirt used to be pretty big on me, and it seems that the dry cleaners shrunk it. I had a feeling I couldn’t trust them. And go figure, they just laughed when I complained. How rude, huh?
'That is rude...' Sierra said, although she had a pretty good feeling as to why they laughed.
'Well, I gotta use the restroom, if the waitress comes while I am gone, order me the rib and 11 oz steak combo with a loaded baked potato. Oh, and another tea too.'
'Ok, yeah, I was thinking of getting that - whoa-'
Janie stopped in the middle of her sentence as Sierra stood up. She was surprised to see how chubby her best friend was getting, at least from the waist down. She was pretty thick in the middle, not having much for a waist indentation anymore. Her belly hung over her waistband. Her hips had gotten wider, her thighs pretty meaty, pulling her ruining pants tight across them.
'What? What’s wrong, you look concerned - is there a bug on me or something?' Sierra starting jumping around, her belly slightly jiggling, as she tried to get what she thought was a bug off of her.
'No, no bug. It’s nothing, I just remembered something I had to do today,' Janie lied, not wanting to hurt Sierra's feelings.
'Oh, ok, be right back.' Sierra walked down the hall to the restroom. 'Wow, I feel so bad for Janie. She used to be so thin and muscular. I can’t believe how fatty she has gotten', she thought as she struggled to pull her pants down.
'Wow, that was a great lunch, I am stuffed!' Sierra said, as she leaned back and stretched, exposing her chubby stomach. Then she sat back up and it rolled over her waistband, slightly resting on her lap. 'Janie has got to be stuffed literally,' she thought to herself. 'I still can’t believe she ordered that brownie volcano for dessert!'
'Well, I better get going; I told Tony I would be to his house by 4. We are going mini golfing, and I wanna get a quick nap in.' Janie stood up and threw her purse strap over her shoulder
'Ok, well, I will call you later in the week,” Sierra replied. “I got crazy work hours again. Oh, Mary called me, her and Brandon got engaged, and are getting married next May. Can you believe it? She wants me to be in the wedding; I gotta get fitted for the dress sometime this spring. Its good they’re giving themselves time to plan. you can't try to plan a wedding in 3 months!!'
'Hmmm, she left a message on my cell, I wonder if she is asking me to be in the wedding too. How is she doing anyway? Not to be mean, but if she doesn’t lose some weight, she isn’t gonna look too good in a wedding dress. Last time we talked, which was at least 4 months ago, she said she had joined some weight loss club. I wonder how that was going. I am just glad I don’t have to worry about working out. Where would I find the time, you know?!' Janie jabbered as she headed towards her car.
'You and me both!' Sierra said, although she wasn’t so sure Janie could miss out on a few workouts. Make that a couple hundred workouts. Little did she know Janie was thinking the same thing about her. 'Well, see ya, and let me know if you are in the wedding. We can get fitted together!'
