I don't care how experienced someone is at cooking or baking. We all have brain farts.

Last Thursday, I figured I'd make some lemon cookies after my husband went to bed. I don't like him under foot in the kitchen. It seems he never wants to be in there until I am, and then he stands right where I need to be. [Anyone else relating?] So, by the time the butter was sufficiently softened and I had gotten dishes cleared from a late dinner, it was midnight. Still, I was determined. I had 2 other aborted cookie making sessions earlier in the week, and I wanted sweets, dammit!

So, what did I do? I put in 3 tsp of baking SODA instead of baking POWDER. At first I thought the cookies were just slightly overdone, being browned more than normal and just tasting off. It's a new apartment and Iamb not used to the stove yet. I wondered if I had something that had spilled in there that affected the flavor. Then I figured that it might just need the icing. I hadn't made them in a while, and I forgot how sweet they were to be without icing. Nope. The icing didn't help one bit. In fact, they tasted worse. And then it hit me.... I hate baking soda in cardboard boxes so I always put it in a spice canister so I can level the spoon. I just grabbed what was in front, not even thinking. These things were so nasty, I just dumped the 2 dozen baked cookies and remaining dough in the garbage and went to bed.

What kitchen disasters have you guys had, whether you're a new cook/baker or experienced in the kitchen?
