With Ted Cruz kissing the collective butts of the religious right, with Indiana asserting the "right" to discriminate in gods name, with throngs of culture warriors salivating over the prospect of "taking back their country" from godless, Muslim, socialist, Nazi Obama in 2016 its looking like the culture wars are heating up.
All the bluster, however, reeks of desperation. In most of the country the culture wars are over -- conservatives lost. Especially among younger people gay rights, reproductive rights, gender and racial equality ... are now deeply ingrained and acknowledged fundamental rights (self-evident truths if you will).
The rallying of an ever shrinking, but ever more fundamentalist, conservative base may result is short-term GOP victories. However, in the longer-term it will only swell liberal ranks with people of goodwill fleeing a closed minded and mean spirited tradition.
