Sometimes activism consists of big things and sometimes it consists of taking a small chips out of the fortress of size discrimination.

Wednesday a friend and I were in a store that catered to the needs of disabled people. We noticed that for large customers to sit in, they had nice wide chairs with arms. We complemented the staff, pointed out the wisdom of having accommodations for large people, asked the staff if they knew where the chairs have come from, and told the staff that in the future when we go into a medical facility or other facility that needs to have some large chairs for its fatter patrons we would mention that they could call this particular store to find out how to get them.

And for those of you who wonder if my friend was embarrassed by my actions, it was she that started that particular sequence of events. I assure you I was not embarrassed by her actions.

Yours truly,

Russell Williams
