Ok, the other day, I realized that I was suddenly craving pickles. On sandwiches! Now I have never once liked pickles on sandwiches. Ever. I think they're weird and that they ruin the whole thing.
But all of a sudden, I want that effed up but delicious cubano, all the time. I even had the guy who runs the cuban coffee house 2 doors down from me go in the back, and put on extra mustard and extra pickles, before he grilled it. I was yelling from the counter: no, more pickles. MORE. And when I ordered a handmade hamburger the other day, the guy put pickles in the container and I used every single one of them on the burger.
Very strange. I can't even say that I'd like to eat them alone, or on another sandwich. So in many ways, I still really don't like them. And yet somehow, at the same time, I'm suddenly loving them.
And the old joke about ice cream and pickles? i can seriously see the appeal right now.
