In the Tuesday, August 9, 2007 Herald Mail newspaper on page A4 a writer says “children are 1500 times more likely to die because they are fat then by firearms use.” The author of the letter to the editor does not have a listed phone. Can anybody out there give me a source for that particular statistic. I would like to know what age they count as children.

It looks like Baltimore, Maryland will have about 300 homicides this year. If 10 of those homicides are counted as children then that would mean that during the same year 15,000 children in Baltimore would die of obesity. If 150,000 of the 600,000 people in Baltimore are classified as children would that mean that after 10 years all of the children in Baltimore would be dead of obesity?

Yours truly,
Russell Williams
