thought this was interesting. The European Union has committed itself to action to combat obesity. Most of what is referenced in the article are actually sensible health initiativesmaking sure healthy food is widely available, restricting marketing of junk food to kids, making it more appealing to walk or cycle, and so on. I can support all of that. I just wish that they had then called it a charter to combat unhealthy lifestyles, not a charter to combat obesity. Or if it must reference obesity, I would wish that they had a preamble explicitly recognizing that people naturally come in a range of sizes, that there is no one cause of obesity, and that achieving a healthy lifestyle is more important than achieving any given size.
The article I read is here: http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2006/11/16/obesity-charter.html
