Not sure if there is another thread like this floating around, but let's talk about fantasy novels! You can also include Sci Fi, if you want. Right now I am reading Lord of the Rings for the first time (yeah, I know, "just where have you been for the past 50 years?") and I must say, I am a bit disappointed. Now, before you light up your torches or pick up your very large rocks, let me explain.

The narrative is horrible...I mean, the story is awesome, and well deserving of all the hype, and praise, but dear lord, Tolkien cannot write! He drones on and on about things that really have no point, and instead of taking the time to flesh out the plot or characters further, he chooses to discribe trees or rivers...Not saying that that isn't bad, it's just boring, and it bloats the book with needless things.

Okay, done ranting about Lord of the Rings, now I want you all to tell me about your favorites (or non favorite) Fantasy novels.
