FDA unleashes Pfizer's dog obesity drug
Slentrol to target the 5% of obese and and 20-30% of overweight U.S. dogs.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a Pfizer Inc. drug to treat obesity in dogs by reducing appetite and the absorption of fat, the agency said Friday.
The drug, called Slentrol, aims to help the roughly 5 percent of U.S. dogs who are obese to lose weight, the FDA said in a statement. Another 20 percent to 30 percent are overweight, it added.
