BOCA RATON, Fla. A documentary in the making has attracted the attention of a stalker that has gone after the creator of the project, the filmmaker claims.
"It's called 'Fattitude,'" filmmaker Lindsey Averill said about her feature-length documentary in the works. "(It's) about how our culture fosters fat hatred and continues to shame fat people.
Averill is working toward her doctorate degree and found out someone on YouTube had taken her trailer and made his own bizarre, hateful and racist version.
"It's likening the attack on the Twin Towers, Holocaust images, rape images, anti-black, anti-Jew, just really horrible stuff," Averill told WPBF 25 News' John Dzenitis.
The person's username was godblessadolphhitler. Averill had YouTube take down the video.
"As soon as they pulled down (the video) on YouTube, he just went mad," Averill said.
At first, Averill dealt with nasty Twitter messages.
"He then posted online our personal information, where we live, what our phone number is and said, 'Happy hunting,'" Averill said.
He also posted addresses and phone numbers of the people interviewed in the documentary, as well as people who donated to Averill's Kickstarter campaign.
"All of a sudden, our phone started ringing, and it was people all over the country saying horrible things," Averill said.
Qurans, Torrahs and even pizzas were delivered to Averill's house.
"So that's what they're doing when they deliver pizza. They're telling me they know where I live," Averill said.
Averill doesn't know who the man is with the username godblessadolphhitler, but Boca Raton police are investigating.
"He could be anywhere," Averill said. "He could be in China. He could be in Estonia. He could be in Alabama."
