I was saddened to learn the passing of the king of Tex-Mex, Freddy Fender. I can't think of another American artist who incorporated die-hard, twang Country with Spanish language.
Even with the twang though, AM radio was friendly to Freddy in the mid-70's when "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" went to #1 and "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" peaked at #8, maybe two of the unlikeliest songs to crossover.
