If you'd like an invite, send me an email address you'd like it attached to here or via PM. I'll be moving right now so I might not get back to you right away, but I'll check back at some point every day.
Google+ is a take on the Facebook social network, but it does it with a much cleaner interface, better friend management and privacy controls. I find it's speedier, more concise and the hangouts feature is worth it on it's own.
When you add users, you add them to one or more circles depending on your own preference. When you write a post or want to share something, you have the option to select which circles to share it with and only those people will see it (it's nice for privacy). There are times that I want to share something with friends that might offend others or I know a specific group of people will appreciate it. It's much more intuitive to how social groups work in real life. Circles also extend to messaging on mobile devices. If you'd like to make plans or keep a multi person chat going with your besties, it's easy to do (on an Android or iPhone for now).
Hangouts are also awesome. It's basically a chat room with 9 other people, but it has a nice interface and manages to not seem cluttered with a lot of people webcamming it up. It's definitely worth checking out.
I'd really like to see this take off, not only for the competition with Facebook, but since it's Google, they're likely to incorporate their other services and put a little more of the human equation into their search algorithms if that makes any sense.
So yeah, you know you want some
