In forcing the government shutdown and threatening to let the United States default on it debts the GOP is acting like a petulant child throwing a temper tantrum. The far right believes they are the "Real America" and they are the only ones entitled to govern. Any other government is inherently evil and if they can't call the shots, they'd rather stand on the sidelines and toss sand into the gears.
