Cool article.
MSNBC: Coming of age in the years of living dangerously

Works for me! I broke every rule in the nutritional book growing in the late 1950s, 60s AND 70s, eating wayyyy too much food loaded with sugar, preservatives and other chemicals. Luckily I didn't chase mosquito-fogging trucks on my bicycle or stay out in the sun until I roasted alive, but I did engage in other childhood activities now considered almost lethal. And proud of it! Maybe what didnt kill me made me stronger? More likely I have verrrry good genes because my parents are still hale and hearty at 77, and my grandparents lived well into their 80s and 90s. A positive attitude works wonders too.
My mother kept telling me I was so fat I'd never live to be 30, or 40, or 50, but I'm 52 and still here. I must confess I'm at the age when I worry when some of the dire consequences of my weight will kick in, and I do have some aches and pains (nothing my husband's massages can't soothe :smitten: ). For that reason I watch my health verrrry closely and so far so good. It would be delicious irony if my mother's dire warnings never came to pass due to the strong genes she herself gave me. Knock on wood (ow, my head!).
PS. This article also reminds me of the Woody Allen movie Sleeper, when scientists in the year 2173 said:

Whether you were raised on heaping bowls of Boo Berry (1970s), Quisp (60s) or Sugar Jets (50s), you probably, unknowingly, violated every rule we now know about nutrition and safety.

Dr. Melik: "This morning for breakfast he requested something called 'wheat germ, organic honey and tiger's milk'."
Dr. Aragon: "Oh, yes. Those are the charmed substances that some years ago were thought to contain life-preserving properties."
Dr. Melik: "You mean there was no deep fat? No steak or cream pies or... hot fudge?"
Dr. Aragon: "Those were thought to be unhealthy... precisely the opposite of what we now know to be true."
Dr. Melik: "Incredible!"
