Today at lunch some co-workers and I had an interesting discussion about fat and race/ethnicity and it was going well until one of the ladies chimed in about how she feels black women "do fat better" or carry it better than other women. Now, I can understand her sentiments about fuller figures being appreciated in the black community, but to assume that black chicks carry fat better sort of bothered me...it sort of perpetuates the stereotype of what is attractive and what isn't; even in the fat community. To be honest, I didn't really know how to respond as it caught me off guard...especially since they are fat as well.

Have you heard people say this? How did you respond?
