Hello to everyone at Dimensions. I am a long time lurker, but a recently new poster. I know there are a few of you here who are nurses and I was hoping I could call on your knowlege on a situation that I'm currently going through. (any opinions would be appreciated)

I would have posted this else where, would have preferred to, but didn't see a forum for women and their issues, so men please forgive me. I went to my Dr. on Monday to take a pregnancy test. She gave me a urine test and the results were negative, but because I am going to be taking a medicine that could harm a embryo, she did a blood test.
Since the urine test came back negative, I didn't think any more of it, assuming it too would be negative as well.
The next day I get a call from the Dr.'s office telling me the test came back "undetermined" and to come back in the lab for another test at the end of the week.

After doing some research on what exactly undetermined means, I found very little resource to explain it thoroughly enough for my understanding. It read that if my HCG hormone was above 5, but lower than 24, then the results would be neither positive or negative, rather inconclusive.

I researched HCG and found that only a placenta sack will cause the hormone to be found in our body, unless of an instance of a tumor, otherwise it would be way less than 5. (mIu/ml).

My question is this:

Am I pregnant, but my HCG are so low they're not sure if it's a normal viable prenancy (ie; miscarriage, blighted ovum, or ectopic) or am I too early to get a decent HCG reading?

If I am pregnant, I'm only about 13-14 days. I have irregular periods, but on the regular side. (meaning they come every 30-40 days)

I'm driving myself batty with this and while I can go to the Dr.'s office to get the final result (and will on Friday), I'm curious if any other ladies here have had any experience with this and/or if there are any nurses who may be willing to give me some insight, comfort and hope. (yes, I'd like to have this be positive)

I appreaciate all replies and I apologize that this is my first post.
Thank you,
June
