Since his silent exit several months ago, I've seen at least two threads pondering the whereabouts of Old Dogsoldier. Pondering, missing, speculating. I, myself, tried to launch all manner of colorful rumors. Fell in love with a gay cowboy. Underwent gender reassignment surgery and drove around some with the son he never knew he had. Met with societal burdens whilst operating a "hospitality" business on the streets of Memphis.

Hollywood was listening, but you guys weren't. So I give up. Here's the god's honest. It's not as interesting as the gay cowboy thing, or being a pimp who longs for a transfer to the Hip-Hop division of ganstadom. But still, it may surprise some.

Old Dogsoldier (Dan) has taken leave of the board. While I -- and many of you, obviously -- miss his thoughtful contributions and hold out hope for his return, he continues to exhibit superhuman strength in staying away. The sort of moderation a world class immoderate like myself cannot fathom, let alone understand. I think he's a robot. Or perhaps a space alien. (My two other rumors which never quite took hold.)

The good news is (spoiler alert!), there are Old Dogsoldier essays right here on this site that you may have missed the first time around. Old Dogsoldier is Daniel Davis, co-founder of NAAFA's FA-sig, which blossomed into Dimensions Magazine. His Outlook column now resides in Dimensions' library section, here:

I think Dan's one of the good guys, and I'm grateful to call him a friend. I've let him know he's missed here, and I "out" him today with his full knowledge and blessing. He has asked, however, that I keep his unholy lust for a fellow denim-clad Pretty Boy ranch hand under my Stetson. So please don't spread that one around.

If you'd like to write to him, he welcomes your correspondence at dandog "at" frontiernet "dot" net.
