A friend and I were talking yesterday about what we as individuals can do collectively to bring change to the world. The discussion started about global warming and ways we can change our personal lifestyles to educating others and even corporate boycotts to throw our spending power around. BUT when the topic turned to size acceptance, it was almost as if she was curling into the fetal position. This made me curious about the SA community at large and how willing individuals are to step out of their comfort zone to let their voice be heard.
Would you -in the interest of furthering Size Acceptance as a movement- do any of the following:
1. host or plan events locally to raise awareness?
2. open and maintain an informative website about SA?
3. join a SA support group and contribute on a personal level?
4. an email campaign voicing your opinions to corporations you feel are biased against people of size?
5. peacefully protest for the rights of fat people?
6. host a radio show sharing helpful information important to people of size?
7. boycott manufacturers and corporations you feel are biased against fat people?
8. protest loudly with signs and banners for the rights of fat people?
9. appear on national television or other media to tell your own story of size acceptance?
10. demand that retailers in your area do more to cater to your needs?
11. demand fat friendly medical care?
12. would you formally complain to medical administrators if you or your family member did not receive the care they needed because of their size?
13. participate in size-postive events?
14. write a book about your size acceptance experience?
I'm sure there are many more ways to influence the world than those I have listed, so feel free to add anything you would do that I missed.
Now let's see how active your activism is......
