Today I saw a doc who specializes in vascular surgery, in order to get evaluated for varicose vein repair? removal? Just make them please go away, they're so damn ugly? Please???
Anyway, after my ultrasound (and mine are truly truly bad) we talked about the things that might have contributed to the problem (I brought it up, because I'm a geek and I was curious). I asked about crossing my legs (something I can do now!) and he said it probably doesn't make them worse. How about pregnancies? Definitely, he said. Genetics? Probably the biggest factor.
And then I asked... what about the fact that I've been fat my entire adult life? His reply, "if you saw how many thin people we have who come in here for this procedure you'd have your answer". So, this from an expert -- lots of thin folks get varicose veins, and obesity has not, in his experience, been a predominant cause.
Oh, and if anyone's interested in getting theirs fixed, check out www.vnus.com. They have a new, non surgical method that's just as effective as stripping the veins, but without scarring. I want it. Like right now.
Anyhow, I just thought I'd share a size positive message with y'all. And hopefully now my insurance company will get on the ball and approve this bad boy so I can get it done.
