Yesterday Louise went to the orthopedic surgeon so that he could check on her hand. He said that her injury should not postpone her hip replacement surgery and that on the x-ray he could not see any sign of a broken bone. As best I remember Louise told me that she was told what the difficulty was. The person who was giving her the x-ray was a trainee who had not yet reached the chapter in the book that warned the x-ray technicians to always make sure that the person's appendages and belongings were clear of the machinery before moving the table.

Fortunately we are lucky enough that the x-ray department is not going to make us pay for the emergency room visit and the other visits associated with this incident. I am very glad that at least they're being kind enough to pick up the medical bills.
