Anyone ever been a victim of it? If so, how bad is it really? I've been told everything form "do not worry about anything" to "your credit will be ruined".

I'm a week and a half into this and have run the gamut of emotions. Currently I'm just pissed. At the stores that granted credit to someone using my social security number with a totally different name. At the police who do not really seem interested. At the person doing all of this in the first place and last but not least at the amount of paperwork involved. Top of that list being paperwork to prove my identity because pertinent information has been changed at the credit bureaus.

Of course I have no idea how my information was obtained. It had to have occurred somewhere I've given in depth information about myself. After racking my brain I can only come up with Best Buy or the emergency room. Those are the only two new places where my social security number was given out since this year began.

I'm already tired of dealing with this and it's only just begun. Trying to stay positive is difficult because every day there is something new in the mail to deal with.
