So the other day I was coerced into entering this competition where everyone was given 10 minutes to put on a stand-up comedy act. The top 4 people were then given 30 minute slots at an upcoming event. Turns out I can do a pretty damn good routine and won a top 4 spot out of about 45 or so people without even sweating it.
Tonight, after years of people telling me I should be a comedian, I am doing my first stand-up comedy routine. I can't believe how hard it was to come up with material that would be funny on a stage. In normal conversations and situations I can have people laughing all day long. Coming up with material for 30 straight minutes of funny? Holy shit it was hard. I gained a lot of respect for comics during the time I was coming up with material.
Over the past week or so I have been demoing parts of my show to friends and whatnot and got great results and I am pretty confident about tonight. I am a great public speaker since I basically have no shame or sense of embarrassment. My friend is going to be there recording it so I will make sure that video ends up here as soon as it's in my hands!
Now it's your turn. When have you done something you didn't expect yourself to do, didn't think you were able to do, etc. How did it turn out?
