NPR ran a great segment this morning about how totally hapless the California GOP has become:
" ... It wasn't just President Obama's 21-point margin of victory. California Democrats gained four seats in Congress and will have two-thirds majorities in both houses of the state Legislature.
...
Some Republicans are now re-registering as independents to run for office — simply not to have the word 'Republican' next to their name, ... "

Its interesting that the GOP's fortunes reversed when they took a hard line against immigrants under former Governor Pete Wilson. The ever increasing ethnic community hasn't forgotten and the California GOP has been in steady decline.
Given the anti-immigrant hostility and attempts to suppress minority voting it looks like Republicans nation wide are using California as a model for the future. I couldn't be happier.
