I do this every Father's Day - post the lyrics to one of my favorite Groucho Marx songs. So here it is for 2007, for all my fellow fathers:

I found a sound file of Groucho Marx singing this in the '70s when he was giving concerts at colleges across the country. NPR featured it last year on "All Things Considered", as part of a feature on Father's Day humor. Follow the link below, and click on the "Listen" button near the top of the page to access the NPR Audio Player. The part about Groucho starts at around 7:40 into the clip. (Once the interview starts, you can use the horizontal slider under the timer to move to 7:40 if you don't want to listen to the entire story.)

Father's Day
(Words & Music by Harry Ruby)
Today, Father, is Father's Day
And we are giving you a tie.
It's not much we know
It is just our way of showing you
We think you're a regular guy.
You say that it was nice of us to bother,
But it really was a pleasure to fuss -
For according to our mother, you're our father -
And that's good enough for us.
Yes, that's good enough for us.
