We're all familiar with the concept of red states and blue states. Author Colin Woodward proposes that rather than 50 red and blue states, culturally our country is actually divided into eleven regions that cut across state (and even international) boundaries. Woodward is of the opinion that these eleven cultures are very old and the continuing influence of the long dead people who originally settled the regions.
