A fellow foodee commented to me that I seemed to have a encyclopediacal knowledge of junk food. I must confess. As a twiggy punk kid in the 70s, I had an everlasting craving for sweets, pastries, and all things fast junky food.

At the age of 12, I was given a bicycle for my birthday; and shortly thereafter I made the common mistake of getting a paper route. Mistake meaning I had no idea what was in store for me every saturday and sunday morning at 4am.. folding and rubberbanding papers, riding from house to house, apartment to apartment putting papers on each doorstep.

The part I was really after was the afternoon and evening delivery during that summer. I've no idea how much I really made, but I spent almost all of it on BigGulps of Coke, and on candy. I sampled everything on the rack from Summit and Zagnut to Marathon, Valomilk, Reeses, Chunky, and Milkshake. I have early memories of all those, and as a total geek.. I can remember my first Butterfinger, KitKat, and Idaho Spud.

Later that fall, as I started junior high, my cravings turned to Hostess and McDonalds. I could never get enough Ding Dongs and Chicken McNuggets... as long as my money held out.

To this day, I don't know why I didn't balloon up with all the extra candy and food I put away. I stayed a stick-thin kid up to and after high school.

But not anymore. :)
