An Austrian woman identified as a girl who disappeared while walking to school at the age of 10 had been held captive in a cellar for the past eight years, authorities say Thursday.

An 80-year-old man found Natascha Kampusch in a yard in a residential area northeast of Vienna on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports. He said the woman was running and screaming and in a state of panic.
Her alleged kidnapper, 44-year-old Wolfgang Priklopil, committed suicide Wednesday night by jumping in front of a train in Vienna, police said. A DNA analysis was underway to confirm his identity.
Her parents and police identified her by a scar on her arm from a childhood operation. Results of a DNA test were expected later Thursday.

This story reminds me of the film staring Terrance Stamp. I know the film as The Butterfly Collector. It is also known as The Collector. Oddly enough the film's story line is much like the news story. In the film a man knipnaps and keeps a woman in an underground bunker. It is a good film if you haven't seen it, rent it. BTW I heard that the kidnapper's mother used to come over to his house during the ten year span and didn't know the woman was in the cellar. Amazing!
